GuidettiJohn Guidetti is hoping that he can stretch his epic season out for one more week as he prepares to face Denmark in the semi-final of the u-21 European Championships in Prague.

Back in September it took a last gasp goal against France to book Sweden’s place in the last eight with another late goal required to draw with Portugal to qualify for the semi-finals.

The All Scandinavia clash with Denmark is eagerly awaited in both countries with the winners going through to meet Portugal or Germany in Tuesday’s final.

Despite the ups and downs of his club career Guidetti has remained a first pick for the Swedish u-21 side and opened the scoring in the 2-1 victory over Italy in the opening group match.

After Simon Tibbling’s late equaliser earned his side a place in the last four Swedish coach Hakan Ericson told uefa.com: “It’s fantastic [to reach the semi-finals]. It’s a dream and it’s a long-term target that I had with this team. The first time we met two and a half years ago we said that we would try together to do well in this tournament and now we are here, it is incredible.

“We had a plan, a strategy, that if we have to go for a goal in the last minutes then we will and it’s the second time it has happened this way.”

Emerging from the group ahead of Italy and England was a major achievement for the Swede’s whose international scene is dominated by Celtic daft Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Guidetti has still to commit to a new club after being released by Manchester City with his success at the u-21 European Championships likely to prove double edged.

While reminding club’s of his availability a season stretching towards July won’t give him much time to settle into pre-season training at his next club.
