The draw leaves Norway in third place behind Croatia and Italy with their next match away to fourth placed Bulgaria on September 3.

Jason Denayer made his competitive debut but a first half goal from Gareth Bale settled the match with Adam Matthews an unused substitute for the Welsh.

Nir Bitton was substituted after 80 minutes of Israel’s 3-1 defeat away to Bosnia.

The top two in each of the nine groups will join France with five third placed teams also making it through to the finals.
