Jason DenayerJason Denayer looks certain to be given his big chance at Manchester City.

A season at Celtic and full international experience has catapulted the defender into Manuel Pellegrini’s top team plans.

Manchester City’s official website keeps close taps on all of their loan players and weren’t shy about Denayer’s international against France.

Jason is like Eden Hazard,” the City website reported Belgium boss Marc Wilmots saying. “Always calm. I’ve never seen him nervous; he has a lot of confidence and there will be someone with experience standing next to him.

It is not too early for him. He has the qualities and if he does something wrong…that is my fault.”

The City website added: “Jason certainly backed up those words with a performance of the very highest calibre.

Time and time again, the 19-year old stepped in to halt promising-looking France attacks, brought the ball out of defence to launch attacks and showed what a wise head he possesses on such young shoulders.”

Club sources rarely talk up the prospects of their own players but in this case it seems that the City are ready to give Denayer a chance in pre-season to see if he is ready to go in at the top end of the Premiership.

The success of the 19-year-old is bitter-sweet for Celtic. While Denayer helped the club to a double triumph his success means that it is highly unlikely that he will be seen again in the a Celtic jersey.

Progressing on from last season, hopefully with a Champions League campaign to enjoy would certainly have helped the defender who instantly struck up a strong partnership with Virgil van Dijk and Craig Gordon.

Ronny Deila won’t get that chance but with Victor Wanyama, Fraser Forster and Ki Sung Yueng doing well in England a move to Celtic will be increasingly attractive to emerging players.

Whether the club wishes to use the loan market again remains open to debate but the unique demands of playing for Scotland’s most successful club seems to be working wonders for players in a variety of positions.
