Celtic fans gave the club’s third kit, or European strip, a mixed reception after it was launched by the club and New Balance.
Dubbed the ‘bumble-bee’ in advance the mainly yellow kit is a reminder of less than successful seasons under Tommy Burns and Tony Mowbray.
The 96/97 kit worn by players such as Paul McStay, Jorge Cadette and Paolo di Canio was certainly a winner with supporters having been inspired by the luminous Borussia Dortmund strip of the same era.
According to the club the 2015 version has: “A solid fluorescent yellow design, the shirt features black hoops boldly emblazoned across the front of the shirt, with a single colour crest sitting proudly against the vivid yellow body colour.
“With a crew-neck collar and black binding detail to the sleeves and cuffs, it’s a modern interpretation of an old classic. This kit is completed with fluorescent yellow shorts and black and yellow hooped socks”.
Celtic captain Scott Brown said: “European nights are a big part of this club; it’s what the players and fans crave.
“The lads are looking to make a big impression and this new kit gets us well on our way to achieving that. It’s a loud design but so are our own fans – I know they will love it!”
Celtic’s European commitment is dependent on seeing off Stjarnan on Wednesday night with some fans looking on the bright, or luminous side, of the new kit.
On the popular Kerrydale Street forum the chunky poster UddyBhoy01 suggested: “Going to draw a badge on my works hi-viz vest and save myself 40 quid. It will be the first time I have fitted into a strip in years.”
Over on twitter there were some more complimentary views.

Less favourably…
New Celtic 3rd kit is howling. First two New Balance ones are great but the classic bumblebee design should have been left in the 90s

Well readers, what do you think of the new kit, is it a winner or a wincer?
dont like it one bit..why go back to the old style kit.should be coming up with new styles
Horrible jersey
Absolutely awful !!!!!!! What has fluro yellow and black got to do with Celtic. Stick to our own colours that have served us well for nearly 130 years. Would much rather have one like the original Celtic strip that had the Celtic Cross and collar like we had a few years back. A cheek to ask for fifty odd quid for it too !!!!!
Have to agree with Logiebear, what a eyesore, is this the best that can be put together, seems like because that last bumblebee kit was a big seller that this has now been put together in the hope that it will be another big seller, must admit though, it would be useful when driving a bike at nighttime, you would look more like a glowworm than a bumblebee
Personally I want to look like a Celtic supporter not a fluorescent insect.
I like the color, but would have preferred even stripes, rather than ones that get smaller, with stripes down the sleeve …
Would it not make sense to create a strip based on the input of the fans. We always wear our strips etc with the upmost pride but it would make it that bit more personal if it was designed by our own fans.
