Paul George 2Former Celtic winger Paul George has gone on trial with LINFIELD!

The Irish youth internationalist was released by Celtic last December and moved to Dunfermline after training spells at Aberdeen and Motherwell.

George seemed destined for a glittering future at Celtic when he appeared as a 15-year-old in the first team friendly against AZ Alkmaar in 2010 and made a late substitute appearance against Ross County in the League Cup a year later.

A brutal leg break from Lewis MacLeod during a 3-0 win at Murray Park in April 2012 put him out of football for seven months and he was never able to recapture his previous form.

Despite reports of interest from Derry City and Glentoran, George turned out for Linfield yesterday in a friendly away to Albert Foundry. Although listed as a trialist the official Linfield confirmed that the trialist was the former Celtic player.

George, who comes from the village of Killough, played at under-16 and under17 level for Northern Ireland before switching to the Republic of Ireland, going on to win under-17 and under-19 caps.

He was a key member of Celtic’s 2010/11 youth side that won the domestic double and competed in the first season of the Next Gen Series winning home and away against Manchester City with George scoring twice along with Tony Watt and John Herron as Celtic won 4-2.

George made four appearances last season for Dunfermline but was released at the end of last season as John Potter made way for Allan Johnston as manager.
