Graham CareyTwo former Celtic reserves have signed new contracts at opposite ends of the country.

Paul Lawson and Graham Carey were part of Kenny McDowall’s side that started won 9 Reserve titles in a row before the SPL decided to scrap the league due to the financial troubles at a number of clubs, principally Rangers (IL).

Lawson, a former captain of the Celtic reserve side, has returned to his roots in the north of the country to sign for ambitious Formartine United where another former Celt, Callum Bagshaw is on the books.

Dunbliner Carey has switched from Ross County to Plymouth Argyle where he will be reunited with Derek Adams who signed him for County after a stint at St Mirren.

While Carey remains in the professional game Lawson’s decision to move to the Highland League is similar to that of Richie Britain who recently signed a three year deal with Brora Rangers after being released by Ross County.

At the age of 29 Lawson had hoped that a move to Motherwell in 2013 would take his career to a new level but he never established himself under Stuart McCall and has opted to wind down his playing career rather than move around the country chasing season long contracts.

Carey made one Celtic first team appearance, away to Rapid Vienna in the Europa League and spent time on loan at Huddersfield, St Mirren and Bohemians before making a permanent move to the Paisley side.

With over 100 SPL appearances to his name Carey will be hoping to make a big impact at Plymouth as they attempt to gain promotion into League One under the father and son partnership of Derek and George Adams.
