Roy Keane Paddy PowerRoy Keane is to sue bookmaker Paddy Power for the advert used before the recent Ireland v Scotland European Championship qualifier.

The Ireland assistant manager was portrayed in Braveheart fashion alongside the phrase “You may take our points – but at least we have our freedom… (ya wee pussies)”

Fans of both teams seemed to take the advert in good spirit with plenty of publicity coming the way of the bookie particularly through social media where it was well received.

Keane however thought otherwise with his lawyers filing for compensation at a court in Dublin for infringement of his image.

As ever with Paddy Power the action keeps their name in the spotlight even if the final bill could reach towards €100,000.

The Irish based bookie has never been afraid to push away at normal boundaries with slick advertising campaigns that have gained noteriety and acclaim in equal measures.

Paying out early on bets has been another favoured publicity stunt with punters picking up their winnings well in advance of titles being won.

While Keane heads to court there is increased speculation that Martin O’Neill could become the next manager of Leicester City.

The Ireland boss was 10/1 fourth favourite shortly after Nigel Pearson was sacked but a rush of money saw him cut to ¼ before some bookies suspended betting on the former Celtic manager making a return to the Midlands club.

If O’Neill does move to Leicester Keane is favourite to take over as Ireland manager for the remainder of the Euro 2016 campaign.
