Champions LeagueStjarnan manager Runar Pall Sigmundsson won’t be reading too much into Celtic’s 5-3 defeat from Dukla Prague today.

Ten days ahead of taking his side to Celtic Park the Stjarnan boss got a look at the bulk of Ronny Deila’s first team squad.

The majority of Celtic’s starting XI have only been back in training for a week with Deila set to increase the workload ahead of the final friendly against Real Sociedad.

“We know Celtic is just starting their pre-season and we know they are a very good team, with great players and a great coach,” Sigmundsson said. “It’s good for us to see how they are trying to play.

“There is a very big gap between the teams – this is our first time in the Champions League. We are semi-professional – our players don’t have great salaries.”

Stjarnan have won just four out of ten league matches this season but beat Motherwell and Lech Poznan in last season’s Europa League before being crushed by Inter Milan. who are 10 games into their league campaign, are familiar with Scottish football having

“We like to play in Europe,” Sigmundsson added. “It’s a great feeling for everyone around the club and we will enjoy the moment. Everyone needs to have the game of their lives for us to get a result.

“There is always a chance in football. We know it will be very difficult but we are optimistic. We believe in our team and in our system.”

Stjarnan are at home to Valur on Friday night in their final match before facing Celtic.
