connor mcmanus 1Loan bhoy Connor McManus was on the scoresheet as Alloa hammered Huntly 9-0!

The midfielder scored Alloa’s fourth goal of the day while Michael Duffy played his part setting up three of the goals for Danny Lennon’s side.

It required a play-off win over Forfar to retain Alloa’s Championship place with Lennon determined to ensure that the Petrofac Cup finalist’s steer clear of the relegation zone this term.

McManus and Duffy have been at the club for a fortnight and will be raring to go when the competitive action starts on Saturday with a Petrofac Cup trip to Highland League champions Brora Rangers on Saturday.

After securing the duo of loan Lennon said: “I think Connor and Michael have acquitted themselves very well with the way they have settled in.

We’re delighted to have acquired the services of these two lads. I watched them a few times when I was working with the Scotland under-21s and was highly taken aback with the two of them.

Michael has shown that he has a wee bit of creativity and pace about him. It’s important we play him to what his strengths are.

Big Connor is a holding midfield player and looks very comfortable in possession. He has a range of passing ability which can help break up the play.

We will give these boys every opportunity to develop and I think it is going to be a partnership that will suit all three parties very well.

This is another part of what Celtic see in their development and it works well for us. It’s good business for Celtic. They are developing players not just from this country but from overseas as well, in the case of Michael.

We’re getting good quality young players from the highest level who are just not quite ready for Celtic at this moment in time but could walk into a number of other sides out there.

We would never be able to attain these players ourselves. They are getting great experience in a highly-competitive Championship league and Celtic will be the winners at the end of the day when these players go back.”

Elsewhere Stuart Findlay scored Kilmarnock’s second goal in Saturday’s 4-0 win away to Crusaders. Paul McMullan played for 82 minutes of St Mirren’s 1-0 defeat from Bradford City who included the much travelled Mark Fotheringham in their side.
