Regan Hendry 2Rory Currie and Regan Hendry were on the scoresheet yesterday as a Celtic XI won 2-1 away to Highland League outfit Turriff United.

It was the second season running that Celtic have visited the highland town with two trialists included included in the starting selection.

Eoghan O’Connell, Joe Thomson and Aiden Nesbitt found themselves making the long treck north after being involved with the first team and encountered typically robust opposition from the Highland side.

There was little between the sides in a goal-less first half but after making a couple of half time changes Celtic moved up a gear after the interval with substitute Rory Currie opening the scoring.

Another sub, Regan Hendry, put Celtic two in front before the hosts pulled a goal back in the final minutes.

On Tuesday night a Celtic XI will travel to Kirkaldy to take on Raith Rovers in a match to commemorate the late Turnbull Hutton with a stand being named in honour of the former Raith director who came to the fore in the summer of 2012 as the SFA and SPL tried to bulldoze Charles Green’s Sevco club into the top flight.

After that Stevie Frail’s development squad will take on Lowland League side East Kilbride on Saturday with a 2pm kick off.

Celtic start their Development League campaign away to Hibs with the match scheduled for Tuesday August 8.
