CELTIC GRAVES SOCIETYA fantastic collection of Celtic pictures has been published on the forum of the Celtic Graves Society.

The pictures, all in colour from the 1960’s, were taken by the legendary football writer Jim Rodger, known to all as the Jolly, with the Media Centre at Hampden named in his honour.

Legend has it that Rodger’s contact book contained the phone numbers for various Prime Ministers, Popes and Presidents of the United States.

It seems that the man from Shotts was one of the first football agents with his contacts used to bring about many of the biggest transfers of the sixties with payment taken in the form of bagging another exclusive.

Hearts historian Tom Purdie has acquired the picture collection which goes behind the scenes to reproduce some incredible, timeless images.

With no captions it’ll take some eagle-eyed enthusiasts to identify the players involved in pre-season training routines at Celtic Park in the early sixties.

Paddy Crerand is among the Brylcreme Bhoys of the time with the midfielder also featuring strongly with Jim Baxter with some behind the scenes snaps from Scotland’s international squads.

Among the more surprising images is a great shot of Jimmy Greaves in full Celtic kit standing in the middle of Celtic Park appearing to be watching a training session.

It’s likely that only Greaves could explain the circumstances that led to the former Spurs and England striker being in the east end of Glasgow casually posing in Celtic kit

Among the pictures are some great shots from the press box at Hampden and Celtic Park showing the layout of the stadiums 50 years ago with some very rare colour pictures of Real Madrid after winning the 1960 European Cup Final.

The internet may have a growing band of bampots but with developments like the Celtic Graves Society able to showcase previously unseen pictures like the Rodger collection the power of bampottery will only increase.
