Shaun MaloneyShaun Maloney has joined Hull City after just seven months with Chicago Fire.

The 32-year-old signed for Steve Bruce’s side this afternoon less than a year after quitting English football for life in the MLS.

Speaking to the Fire website he explained: “This was a very difficult decision to make but one that I felt I needed to make for various reasons.

“Although my time at the club was brief, I feel very fortunate for the experience to play for the Chicago Fire and would like to thank in particular my team-mates for the time I spent with them and hope that in the future the club can become successful on the pitch once again.”

Today’s move has parallels to the 2007/08 season when Maloney joined Aston Villa but returned to Celtic after a single season in the Midlands.

Chicago Fire head coach Frank Yallop added: β€œIt’s tough to see a player of his quality leave but you have to take the human aspect of sport into consideration.

‘I’m pleased that the club were able to find a solution that worked for all parties involved and I wish Shaun nothing but the best.”

Hull are currently sitting in fifth place in the Championship with seven points from four matches following their relegation last season.

Maloney will find familiar faces in the Hull dressing room with Andy Robertson and Robert Snodgrass in the squad alongside Allan McGregor.

On Saturday Hull are at home to Preston North End with Maloney expected to be on the bench.
