WattTony Watt was on the scoresheet as Charlton drew 2-2 at Bolton in their final pre-season friendly on Friday night.

Whether the former Celtic striker scored once or twice remains a secret with the second Charlton goal looking suspiciously like an own goal.

There’s no doubting the owner of the Charlton equaliser with Watt running from deep, exchanging passes with a team mate then slotting the ball into the net with the maturity of a veteran.

After three rollercoaster seasons in and out the Celtic side followed by moves to Lierse, Standard Liege and onto Charlton the 21-year-old appears settled with the London side and ready to build on last season when he scored five times in 15 Championship starts.

Fans of the London side have taken quickly to Watt’s wholehearted performances and his obvious joy at finding the net.

Charlton boss Guy Luzon signed Watt for Standard Liege a year ago and is looking forward to the new season and a push for promotion into the riches of the Premier League.

Speaking after the draw at Bolton to the Charlton website he said: “We learned that we were not organised for that, but we continued to play football, they scored another one, we came back and didn’t give up.

It’s a good workout for our team. We are a new team with a lot of young players. It’s very important for our character to come back twice and I think that we showed a lot of good moments in this game.

We need to improve on the defensive side and the offensive side, but it’s normal that we are not at 100 per cent of our quality at this period of time.

We have a lot of new players who need to adapt to the system and to the team. Some of them played very well today and we continue to improve.”

Charlton kick-off the new season at home to relegated QPR on Saturday before away trips to Derby and Nottingham Forest.

Good to see him doing well, and hope it continues for him. Also good to see Neil Lennon doing his job, without needing 24 hour protection for him, and his family. No bombs in the post, or getting attacked in the street, or a football ground. It’s only in Scotland the bigoted brotherhood could have so much hate, for the man.
