Getafe complete Scepovic deal

scepovicGetafe have confirmed the signing of Stefan Scepovic on a season long loan.

With the Spanish transfer window closing at 11pm Celtic Park Time the loan deal was agreed after talks dragged on about a permanent move.

Celtic signed Scepovic a year ago from Sporting Gijon but the Serb found himself second choice to John Guidetti even though the Swede was ineligible to play in the Europa League.

The re-emergence of Leigh Griffiths and arrival of Nadir Ciftci sent Scepovic down the pecking order in Ronny Deila’s plans.

Rather than face another season in Glasgow the striker has made it clear that he would welcome a return to Spain with Getafe confirming their interest on their twitter account before completing the deal.

While Scepovic was a distant third choice the departure of the 25-year-old leaves Celtic short on numbers with Anthony Stokes also the subject of interest from England and the continent.

Going into a crucial stage of the season with only Griffiths and Ciftci would be a high risk strategy for the club to take.

Celtic have been linked with a number of strikers over the last 24 hours but it’s highly unlikely that Steven Fletcher will be leaving Sunderland to join the hoops. ‘Interest’ in Stevie May and Gary Hooper can also be discounted.

With the English transfer window closing at 6pm tomorrow Celtic will have six extra hours to bring in a striker.

Confirmation of the signings of Jozo Simunovic and Ryan Christie is expected tomorrow with terms discussed with the players before they underwent medicals. Simunovic will fly out to join the Croatian u-21 squad with Christie returning to Inverness Caley Thistle for the remainder of the season.

another 2 million plus doon the drain.. when are going to learn its bebetter to spend 4 or 5 million on a proven goalscorer than buy 2 or 3 duds at 2 million each…the amount of money wasted by us over the last few years is a joke

Good luck to him playing over there, he’s off the wage bill and getting a game, so everybody is happy. We only play with one striker up front, so know to sure if we’ll sign another, wait and see what happens tomorrow. Hopefully our squad will be stronger than it was.
