Loch Lomond FestivalCeltic’s u-17’s maintained their 100% start to the season with a well deserved 2-0 win over Aberdeen at Lennoxtown.

After a goal-less first half Celtic moved up a gear after the break with Jack Aitchison and substitute Keiran Campbell finding the target while Lewis Bell, Michael Johnston and Aitchison all hit the woodwork.

At the interval it looked like Celtic would have their work cut out to break down the Aberdeen defence who had kept the hoops at bay throughout the first half with former Dons captain Russell Anderson instructing the visitors from the sidelines.

Seven minutes into the second half Celtic made the breakthrough. A free kick from the right flew high over the penalty box but Wallace Duffy refused to give up, after collecting the ball as it approached the corner flag he showed some nifty footwork on the bye-line before squaring the ball across goal with Aitchison first to react stabbing the ball home at the front post.

That goal signalled a real period of dominance from Celtic as they stretched Aberdeen down the flanks and created a handfull of chances.

Aitchison hit the post in the 58th minute after Dan Church and Broque Watson created an opening down the left with Bell sending a 25 yard shot against the crossbar 12 minutes later.

Bell picked up a head knock five minutes from the end and was replaced by Campbell after lengthy treatment in the Celtic penalty box.

Within two minutes of coming on Campbell saw a shot cleared off the line but in stoppage time he showed his eye for goal netting from 12 yards out after Church and Aitchison had combined on the left.

CELTIC: Ross Doohan; Stephenm Welsh, Wallace Duffy, Dylan McKendry, Dan Church;; Lewis Bell (Keiran Campbell 85), Brandon Payne (Kerr McInroy 77), Dan McAllister (Ross McLaughlin 60), Michael Johnston, Broque Watson; Jack Aitchison

Very good result for the young guns, but having seen the video clip Kieran Campbell’s goal was a lot further out that your report Joe…he was still in the semi-circle when he chipped the keeper who was miles off his line. Still showed good awareness & skill to carry it out though
