michael ohalloranMichael O’Halloran wants Celtic’s u-17 side to develop a ruthless streak.

The young hoops have started the season with wins over Kilmarnock, St Mirren and on Sunday beat Hamilton with a first half goal from Grant Thorburn.

Lewis Bell and Michael Johnston both struck the woodwork in the first half with the Hearts keeper coming out on top in a couple of one-on-one’s.

The Edinburgh side failed to present any real threat to Conor Hazard in the Celtic goal but O’Halloran admitted that a second goal would have made life easier.

We created a lot of chances but couldn’t get a second goal and that made things difficult for us,” the Celtic coach said. “We were through on their keeper a few times and need to show a bit of composure in those positions.

You just need to find the back of the goal, you don’t need to burst the net. Our finishing was disappointing.

Our goal involved a lot of good movement which is pleasing. It’s good to create chances and our set-pieces were excellent but again we need to be finding the net at the end of these chances.

At 1-0 you are always going to feel a bit of pressure, a goal can come out of nothing and we shouldn’t have found ourselves in that position.”

With Broque Watson injured on international duty with Scotland in Romania Thorburn was pushed forward into the left sided attacking role and popped up with the only goal of the game.

Johnston and Jack Aitchison created space inside the Hearts penalty box with Thorburn making no mistake when presented with a chance six yards from goal.

Grant is a whole hearted player and likes to get in about things,” O’Halloran added. “He hasn’t played in that position before but got his reward being in the right place at the right time.”

CELTIC: Conor Hazard: Stephen Welsh, Wallace Duffy, Blair Kidd, Dan Church; Lewis Bell (Dylan McKendry 88), Kerr McInroy (Kieran Campbell 55) ; Dan McAllister, Michael Johnston, Grant Thorburn ( Christian Antoniazzi 55); Jack Aitchison
