gary hooperGary Hooper has joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan until January 17.

The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour at Norwich and was linked with a move to Wednesday during the summer transfer window.

Hooper made two substitute appearances in August, totalling 11 minutes, for Norwich with Wednesday hoping that he can recapture the form that he showed at Celtic and Scunthorpe.

Announcing the move on their website a statement read: “Sheffield Wednesday have bolstered their attacking options by recruiting Norwich City striker Gary Hooper.

“The 27-year-old has joined on loan until 17 January. Hooper brings to Hillsborough an exemplary goal return, having scored 177 goals from 311 starts so far.

“The hitman started out as a youngster with Grays Athletic and then Southend before productive loan spells with Leyton Orient and Hereford United.

“Hooper’s career in front of goal really took off with Scunthorpe United, for whom he scored 50 goals from 88 starts.

That pedigree in the final third led to interest from SPL giants Celtic, who signed the striker for £2.4m in July 2010.

“In a three-year stint at Parkhead, Hooper plundered 63 goals from just 90 league starts, which led to a £5m move to Norwich in the summer of 2013.

“The 27-year-old has scored 18 times from 38 starts, helping the Canaries to the Premier League via the play-offs in May this year.

Hooper won’t be short of company at Hillsbrough with former Celtic team-mate captaining the side.

Wednesday are currently sitting in ninth place in the Championship, on Saturday they are at home to Nottingham Forest followed by a visit from Brighton on Tuesday.
