Marcus FraserFormer Celt Marcus Fraser has been called into the Scotland u-21 squad to face France and Iceland at Pittodrie.

The defender has been in great form for Ross County helping Jim McIntyre’s team into the top half of the Premiership and last eight of the League Cup.

Fraser joined Ross County in January of this year as the Dingwall club powered away from the bottom of the table after appearing to be doomed for relegation under Derek Adams.

Before moving to the highland club he had a 90 day loan at Cowdenbeath where he demonstrated that he had fully recovered from the cruciate ligament injury of February 2013 that halted his progress at Celtic.

Two months after joining Ross County Fraser was given a two year contract with McIntyre delighted by the defender’s contribution to the club.

After agreeing the new deal the Ross County boss said: “He had a really bad injury after coming through as one of the main young players for Celtic but has shown great character to bounce back from that.

He got some game time on loan at Cowdenbeath and we’ve given him an opportunity here, which he’s taken.

One of his main attributes is he’s a strong character and knows his own mind. He’s a determined individual who believes he can play at the highest level.

We’ve given him that platform at Ross County and he appreciates and enjoys his work here, so it’s important we reward him – and we start to build.

The chairman trusts me just to get on with that side of it. He knows what my plans are and what I’d like to do. We just feel Marcus is a very good young player and someone we want to tie down.”

Scotland beat Northern Ireland 2-1 in their opening European Championship qualifier with Ryan Christie on the scoresheet.
