spflAberdeen’s title credentials were shattered this afternoon as they crashed 5-1 at home to St Johnstone.

A win for Derek McInnes’ side would have sent them seven points ahead of Celtic who now travel to Hamilton tomorrow knowing that a win can reduce the gap at the top down to a single point.

Amazing Aberdeen found themselves trailing 5-1 six minutes into the second half. Brian Easton and former Don Joe Shaughnessy put the visitors two in front before Ash Taylor pulled a goal back in the 12th minute.

Liam Craig restored Saint’s two goal advantage on the half hour with a second half double from Steven McLean piling on the misery for the home side as the fell to their third defeat in a row.

Looking forward to today’s match McInnes said: “We have to dust ourselves down, go again and get back to winning ways. There is no other way.

We have to remember we are four points clear at the top of the Premiership table, and how pleasing that is.

However at the same time to stay there we will have to keep winning games and keep performing well. When we lose a game we are always disappointed. Now we are keen to move on to the St Johnstone game and get back winning.”

Elsewhere in the Premiership Partick Thistle defeated managerless Dundee United 3-0 at Firhill to move off bottom place.

Inverness Caley Thistle, without the suspended Ryan Christie, won 2-1 away to Ross County in the highland derby with Hearts drawing at home to Kilmarnock while Dundee beat Motherwell.

Aberdeen’s next match is away to Ross County on Friday October 16 with Celtic facing Motherwell the next day at Fir Park.

Will the extremely biased Scottish media now turn to St Johnstone as the club to be our strongest challenger:)……or will McInnes now have a go at the St Johnstone manager/team
saying they have a 300 million pound budget:)….and that will justify everything! HH

McInnes says before the game “it is pleasing to be 4 points clear at the top” .
    What an arrogant Sevco attitude.
Their luck just ran out today with a real drubbing from middle of the table St Johnstone.

Let’s hope we can get a run of wins in the league, and power ourselves out in front, where we belong.

    Somebody mentioned Liam McLeod earlier…
Here is an anti-Celtic…. BBC sports fanny… of the first order.
His comments during a Celtic game have to be heard to be believed…
I can’t stand the little git.

    • Carntyne says:

According to someone I trust, Liam McLeod is a lifelong Celtic supporter.

      Hard to believe, I know…

Pumped out of 2 competitions before the end of Sept 3 defeats on the trot one from a lower League team a 5-1 hammering at home. If the media are consistent then surely in their books McInnes is one defeat away from the sack.
