JACK BRESLINA youthful Celtic side returned to domestic duties with a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock in the Development League last Thursday.

After taking part in the Premier League International Cup and UEFA Youth Cup Tommy McIntyre’s side were back at Cappielow with Kieran Tierney the only player in the side to have started a competitive match for the first team.

After an impressive first half the full-back was replaced by Calum Waters at the break with the match goal-less.

It took Celtic until the 63rd minute to break down the Kilmarnock defence with Jack Breslin heading home his first goal of the season before a double from Theo Archibald, also scoring for the first time this season, made the scoreline more reflective of the 90 minutes.

At half time I spoke with Jack about changing things round, we need to vary it at set pieces because we get a lot of them,” McIntyre explained. “We asked him to get closer to the six yard line, lo and behold the corner came in and he put it away. It’s good to see these things pay off.

Theo’s first goal also came from a set piece, he was in the right place to follow up on a rebound, his finish for the second goal was excellent.

I don’t think that Theo started the game that well, it took him a wee bit of time to get into his stride but once he got going he created a lot of chances.

In the second part of the first half he started to get the better of their full back, he got his crosses in and influenced the second half. It’s great for him to have KT (Kieran Tierney) behind, those two form a good combination.

KT has stepped up to the first team, excelled there and it was good for us to get 45 minutes from him.”

Celtic’s u-19 side are in UEFA Youth Cup action tomorrow night (kick off 7pm at Livingston) with the return leg of their tie against HJK Helsinki after winning the first leg 5-0 in Finland.

Over the weekend Celtic’s u-16 side were in action at the Liverpool Academy tournament beating Newcastle 2-0 (scorers McInroy and Antoniazzi), losing 3-2 to West Brom (scorers Aitchison and Johnston) and drawing 0-0 with Arsenal to finish runners up in their group before losing 2-0 to Liverpool in a play-off for fifth spot.

Jack Aitchison and Aidan McAdams left the squad on Sunday to join up with the Scotland u-17 squad.

Celtic begin their defence of the Big Shot SFA Youth Cup away to Hamilton Accies on Sunday November 8 with a 1.30pm kick off at New Douglas Park.
