WattTony Watt will join Cardiff City on loan today from Charlton Athletic.

The former Celtic striker moved to The Valley in January from Standard Liege but is now working under his third manager with the London club.

After a promising start to the season that saw Watt score three times in his first four matches an injury in the League Cup tie against Dagenham saw the 22-year-old drop out through injury as Charlton’s form nosedived.

Guy Luzon paid the price for that slump with Karel Fraeye brought in from Belgium within 24 hours of Luzon being sacked

With the club being controlled by their Belgian paymasters an offer to take Watt on loan by Cardiff was accepted with the deal expected to be completed today.

Cardiff have scored just 17 goals in 17 Championship fixtures but are sitting in ninth place just three points off Birmingham City who are in the final play-off spot.

On Saturday Cardiff lost 2-0 away to promotion chasing Derby County with manager Russell Slade keen to add an attacking edge to his side’s play-off hopes.

After the match the Cardiff boss said: “It’s always disappointing when you lose but I think we lost it to the better side.

“Sometimes you have to put your hands up and I thought Derby were very good today.

“We matched them for much of the first half but they double pressed us hard up the field in the second and unfortunately the two goals we conceded came from us having possession of the ball.”
