Dave King Any doubts about the closeness of the link between Ibrox and the Daily Record has been blown away with the Glasgow based newspaper outing itself in today’s edition.

Barely a question has been raised about the over investment, suitability, wealth, honesty and comments of South African based criminal Dave King while Mike Ashley and Sports Direct have been hounded at every opportunity.

Unlike the BBC the Record are entirely funded by advertisers and paid for readers to report in whatever way they wish, no one pays for a Record licence with the content designed to suit their readership.

In June the Record revealed that a seven year notice period existed between Rangers Retail and Sports Direct with the sportswear giant going to court to ensure that no further details about the deal were released.

Yesterday’s AGM was an occasion of unbridled joy despite the new regime performing an unexpected u-turn by deciding to repay MASH the £5m crisis loan that saw the club through to the end of last season. At an EGM in June shareholders voted 55% to 45% against repaying that loan.

Referring to Mr King’s contempt of court charge on December 9 the newspaper reveals that the club will attempt to overturn the injunction which prevents details of the merchandising deal surfacing.

It explains: “The Record has accessed the papers, which reveal the club’s anger as King hosted yesterday’s AGM at the Clyde Auditorium.

Rangers claim:

Records relating to the original confidentiality agreement signed by Somers and Easdale don’t exist

Somers sought no legal advice from the club, no meetings were in his Rangers diary and he had no authority to sign a confidentiality agreement

Easdale was acting as leader of a shareholding bloc and not a company representative when he agreed to the deal.

Central to the case is a Record article in May in which we revealed there is a seven-year notice period in retail contracts between Rangers and Sports Direct.

Rangers categorically deny leaking any such info and we would never reveal our sources.

Later on the article, explaining the club’s defence, it adds: “Had they wanted to stoke up hostility for Mr Ashley, they could have provided this information to the Daily Record.

The fact this information is not in the article is evidence that Rangers were not responsible for any disclosure made.”

On March 6, the day after the glorious revolution that earned Paul Murray a blazer the Record quoted the former borders banker saying: “I would personally like to take the opportunity to thank the Daily Record for its courageous journalism over the past four years – and officially confirm it is no longer banned from Rangers FC.”

We no who our friends are now..They should be asking why the loan was paid back so quickly..Mabey Mr Ashley was about to call in the Admin Guys..

    • kingsnake says:

It hasn’t been paid back. The GASL merely said it would be. Now, what are the odds of Dave King not having told a porkie?

  • stevie stafford says:

only confirms what we’ve known for years that keith jackson and his cronies only investigate sevco when they get fooled and do it out of revenge but rest of the time they are so much in sevco’s back pocket it’s shameful. They really are a paper in name only they are actually Dave king and sevco’s PR in print.
dishonest, biased, lazy shameful journalism from the daily sevco.

  • Larsson7 says:

Gerry has the Loan been paid.?Remember what we are up against here a G and SL,if he told me tomorrow was Sunday I would bot believe him,as for the Daily Ranger,Liverpool fans do not buy the Sun,Celtic fans should not buy this comic.

Gave up buying this rag years ago, it’s so called sports journalists are a disgrace and I don’t buy the Scottish Hun either another 2 bit rag.

  • sparks says:

why make a song and dance out of going to repay a loan , just get on with repaying it. Actions speak louder than words. The media never even questioned this and the zombies lapped it up. Are they for feckkin real?

  • wulz says:

This rag sticks the boot into Celtic and our supporters at every opportunity. Any ex Celts that work for this mob, lose all credibility in my eyes. Any fan that buys this bog roll can’t be very clever. A broken Celtic crest and a herse outside our main door, during our darkest days. What have we seen from the huns liquidation and Sevco travels, everything to hide and help them any in anyway possible. It’s a HUN RAG and always will be.

Havn’t bought the Daily Ranger for years and never will …..Wulz just summed it up perfectly ……..Best of luck to Ronny and the Bhoys Tomorrow.

  • Scott says:

They are not even ashamed and they do not even try and hide it, it is just accepted and is disgusting.

I refuse to but the daily shit but sometimes read an online piece just as a reminder of how bad it actually is.

I can’t wait till the mob from govan whatever they are calling themselves this week go bust so they can get flushed and all the denial in the world wont work if there is no replacement for them to blindly support.

How they get away with it annoys the **** out of me and I wonder what will happen when they go down the pan who will they talk about.

  • drawkcab says:

The people are being misinformed rendering them helpless.
Keep up the good work daily record.
Robert Maxwell will be very proud.
    Haw.

  • joe mccormack says:

has anyone read of the lengths King was prepared to go to to prevent the authorities selling his properties, his car fleet, his wine collection…..the latter much to the chagrin of one sycophantic Sky Sports reporter.

It speaks volumes of his character.

As one blogger said ‘even his lies are lies.’

I’m quite hopeful that this Daily Radar article could actually see the rag and Ralston in the dock alongside TGASL.

Over the next few months I may dip my toe in the Daily court reports from the various Rangers cases, criminal or otherwise, being reported in the press.

Am I being optimistic in thinking that the court details will be presented verbatim on the front and back pages without any spin from our esteemed hacks?

  • joe mccormack says:

    Enough Celtic.

No answer, satisfactory or otherwise, from the SFA on Res 12,now

Call in Police Scotland now. No Euro licence could have been granted to Rangers in 2011without someone at Ibrox making a fraudulent declaration. How the licence was then signed off by the SFA, where certain individuals knew full well that taxes were outstanding, is another story.

Either no due diligence was applied to the application, contrary to UEFA rules, or a decision had been taken at the highest level within our football authorities to assist the Ibrox club no matter what.

This of course would have been done in the belief that no one would ever question the licence, or indeed the football authorities themselves………..wrong, very wrong.

Let’s see a copy of the licence application, the names of those signing off on the declaration at Rangers and the names of those at the SFA who signed off and submitted the form to UEFA.

Is it possible that any of the names included in the email trail between the SFA and Rangers, published in various blogs before but on JJ’S today, are on the documentation?

Come on Celtic, get the finger out.

  • Joe McCormack says:

Can anyone clear this up for me.

Way back in 2012 there were several statements from the SFA stating that the bestest administrator ever had removed himself from all deliberations concerning Rangers……..lest any claims were made that Ogilvie might find himself conflicted because of his previous with Rangers and er. ………..the little matter of a tax free £96 k EBT.

    So far so good.

JJ has blogged that Ogilvie was the actual conduit for all paperwork from the SFA to LNS……..is he kidding, I think not.

The man who knew more about the DOS and EBT schemes than anyone else had the power to decide what LNS could view before reaching his widely acknowledged flawed conclusions.

Perhaps if he had sat down with LNS over a cup of coffee for half an hour Ogilvie could have given LNS a much clearer picture of what went on……..maybe even venturing to mention that none of the EBT payments had been lodged with the player contracts given to the SFA by Rangers.

So Ogilvie was the SFA conduit to the SFA, bad enough, but how in hell ‘ s name did he get to vote on King’s F&P status if he was removed from all issues relating to Rangers?

I’m sure this will be one aspect of King’s F&P status where Ashley will shed some light.

Mr Hutton stated that there was corruption afoot within the ranks of our football authorities when he stood on the steps at Hampden. No one took him to task on this.
Clearly collusion and complicity can be added to the list.

By the time Ashley has removed the cloak of secrecy used by our football authorities to hide their dirty secrets it would be no surprise that a tsunami of information is released as a result.
The answer to Res 12 will be very telling and the longer the SFA refuse to supply the information to Celtic ‘ s lawyers then the only conclusion that you can come to is that they are hiding something………..complicit, corrupt, colluding, take your pick.

  • joe mccormack says:

Our football authorities may be many things……..conflicted, corrupt, guilty of collusion and possibly all three.

By the time Ashley, Whyte and Green have their day in court I guarantee that the Rangers apologists will all have scuttled well out of sight, with their tails between their legs as a tsunami of further information that the authorities wished would never see the light of day is revealed in court.

Add cowardice to the charge list. I see that the usual subjects are once again spinning like tops arguing that no title stripping can be mooted till the final appeals have been heard.

This is patently nonsense. Whether the EBT’S are legal, illegal, tax evasion or tax avoidance, none of this matters in the slightest.

None of the payments were registered with the players contracts submitted to the SFA, contrary to SFA rules. This is all that matters.
It’s not a missing signature, not a missing date, it’s ten years plus of hiding this information from the football authorities.

    That’s all that matters here.

The rules are clear. Every game where one of these EBT recipients
Played in has to be voided and awarded 3-0 to the opponents.

As a consequence of this every trophy one must be stripped, now!
