Anthony StokesAnthony Stokes faces a hefty club fine after taking to twitter to express his anger at being left out of the Celtic squad that beat Inverness Caley Thistle 3-1.

Despite Scott Brown, Kris Commons and Charlie Mulgrew being out through injury Stokes found himself relegated to the stand after being an unused substitute in the 2-1 defeat from Ajax on Thursday night.

The former Arsenal and Sunderland striker claimed that he didn’t give a f*** about wages after being left out and could now pay the price with a fine of upto two weeks wages for his tweet.

Speaking before the match manager Ronny Deila said: “That was respectless to the other boys. We will handle that inside. We will see what we will do. It is not the best way to behave for your team-mates.”

After Celtic went seven points clear of Aberdeen at the top of the SPFL Premiership a repentant Stokes tweeted: “Sorry for earlier Tweet. Hope fans can appreciate my frustration, heat of the moment.”

Pre match he had tweeted: “Who gives a f**k about wages when your not playing games! It’s all about playing and contributing not picking up a wage.

Moments earlier he had tweeted sarcastically: “Buzzing to be brought all the way up to inverness with the team to sit in the stands today, lovely weather for it too.”

By the time the final whistle had blown that message was retweeted 2,600 times with 1,600 fans liking the comment.

Callum McGregor put Celtic in front after seven minutes with substitute Scott Allan helping to secure the points with strikes from Leigh Grifiths and a Daniel Devine og after Miles Storey had equalised for Inverness six minutes from half-time.

In what could be viewed as an indirect comment relating to Stokes after the match Deila said: “It was nice to see people coming back from being out of the team or having a bad time(McGregor made his first start of the season against Ajax while Allan was making his fourth appearance of the season as a substitute) and getting into it.

Scott Allan has worked really hard all the time and been really patient. He has showed in training that he is ready, he’s had his chance in the last two games and showed that he has something to offer at this level. I’m really pleased for him.

Callum has also been working really hard, having him back makes the whole team stronger.”

Next Saturday Celtic host Hamilton Accies with Stokes likely to be involved in Tuesday’s Development League match against St Johnstone.

Can see why stokes is frustrated, Armstrong doing nothing on the left as it’s not a natural position but still getting played week in week out, golden boy johansen playing week in week out doing absolutely nothing, GMS in the 18 every week doing nothing when he’s on and stokes not getting a look in.

If Ronny doesn’t fancy him as a player tell him and I’m sure he’ll leave in January he’s still got the hunger to play so give him a chance

    Totally agree Mark.

Can understand why Stokes is frustrated.

Having to watch, week in, week out Deila’s son get a game (for those who don’t know who I am talking about…Johanson) and the dross we signed from Utd (Mackay Steven & Cifci) all get opportunities before him. Looks like to me, our boss has his favourites…if you’re face fits.

If I was Stokes I would not apologise and neither should have Commons for his outburst.

There will be Celtic fans saying get rid of Stokes, he’s useless, only scored 8 goals in 38 games last season….bear in mind, he played out of position for most of last season.

I am pretty sure if I could get myself fit, I would get a game before Stokes at Celtic.

Nothing motivates me watching Celtic anymore…this manager is clueless and again we let in a comedy goal again today.

if I was stokes I would go in a see delia man to man, this guy was not here to win the league anyone could do that and after getting humped out of Europe he says its not the end of the world he should be ashamed to walk out with any celtic crest on his clothing and after years upon years of watching celtic I cannot be arsed any more we have a board looking to sell and a management team thinking there the big men at the top of a poor league table

Can see why stokes is frustrated, at not getting any gametime, i always preferred stokesy up front and there in lies the problem, for me for as much as he is a good crosser of the ball, hes not the quickest for wide left, with another striker along side him stokesy shines.
Unfortunatly ronny n co insist on this 1 man up top formation, and as much as i rate griffiths, hes knackered, hes breathin oot his arse after 65 minutes these day, the bhoy needs a wee break, even then it woukld be cifti or cole that gets the nod.
I personally just dont think ronny n co like him after all the off field antics thats happened.
