Celtic v UMF Stjarnan - UEFA Champions League Second Qualifying Round First LegMorten Wieghorst is the favourite to become the new manager of Malmo.

The former Celtic midfielder recently left AGF Aarhus and is expected to take over from Age Hareide who quit Malmo to take charge of the Danish international side.

Speculation is rife in Sweden and Denmark that Wieghorst is the man that Malmo want to rebuild the side after finishing fifth in the Allsvenskan and missing out on European football for next season.

After back-to-back Champions League campaigns Malmo have the biggest budget in Sweden to win back the title and return to European football.

In this season’s Champions League group phase Malmo finished bottom of Group A on three points with Hareide’s final match in charge an 8-0 defeat by Real Madrid.

Wieghorst got his first coaching job in 2006 when he took charge of FC Nordsjælland for five seasons before a brief spell in charge of the Danish u-21 international side.

Michael Laudrup then made him his assistant at Swansea where they won the League Cup before Laudrup was dismissed.

After leaving Swansea he returned to Denmark to take charge of AGF Aarhus, after guiding them to promotion back to the top division he was sacked earlier this month with AGF fourth bottom of the table at the winter break.

Wieghorst spent six and a half years at Celtic after being signed by Tommy Burns in December 1995. During his time at the club he won titles under Wim Jansen and Martin O’Neill despite a lengthy absence after being diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome.

The team that humiliated Celtic don’t qualify for Europe.
If that isn’t enough to convince fans that Delia isn’t the man for the job then nothing is.
I have always believed that with the squad of players we have Malmo should have been beaten over two legs only Ronnie got it wrong and we went out.
Nice guy but not upto the job.

All these former Celts in management, and none want to come back here. Why? I can only think it must be the boss they would have to work for …
