Neil LennonNeil Lennon won’t resign as manager of Bolton.

The former Celtic boss endured a troubled Christmas week after newspaper tales then watched Bolton crushed 4-0 by fellow strugglers Rotherham.

Despite being stuck at the bottom of the Championship and battling against administration it was the first heavy defeat of the season leaving Bolton seven points adrift of Rotherham who are third bottom of the table.

“It has been a difficult week, that’s all I want to say on it,” Lennon said. “It doesn’t affect my professional role but obviously I am in a difficult position professionally as well. It’s not been good enough, we’re bottom of the league and we’re in danger of being stranded.

“I want to try and turn things around, I don’t want to quit, I don’t want resign, I want to turn things around, but that may be taken out of my hands.”

On his side’s performance Lennon added: “I have seen it too many times now away from home now, as soon as we concede we seem to drop our heads, stop competing all together and we made it too easy for Rotherham to score.

“We lacked character and I have seen it too many times this season, we needed a big performance today.

“It’s been a difficult situation that we found ourselves in, but the players have been aware of that. They are due to get paid at the end of the week so we can’t use that as an excuse.”

So far Bolton have won 1, drawn 11 and lost 11 matches in the Championship. Tomorrow Lennon will welcome his former Celtic team-mate Paul Lambert to town with Blackburn sitting in mid-table 10 points off a play-off slot.
