darnell fisherDarnell Fisher got the better of former team-mates Jackson Irvine and Marcus Fraser as St Johnstone won 3-2 yesterday at Ross County.

Dave Mackay’s 88th minute goal gave the Perth side their seventh consecutive away win with David Weatherspoon scoring twice in the first half for St Johnstone.

Fisher was making his seventh appearance of the season after moving to Perth at the end of the summer transfer window with St Johnstone sitting in fourth place and looking forward to a League Cup semi-final against Hibs in the new year.

Tommy Wright has switched Fisher back into central midfield where he found himself in direct opposition to Irvine with Fraser the regular right-back in Jim McIntyre’s team.

After yesterday’s success Wright said: “They did put us under pressure and we responded brilliantly at 2-2. It was absolutely magnificent how we stopped them creating more chances and obviously grabbed the winner.

“The fight and spirit is a quality they have as a team. It doesn’t surprise me. That shone through.

“We’re closer to Hearts and it keeps us in touch with Aberdeen. It’s an excellent day and I’m really proud of my players. They’ve come here and performed how I knew they would.”

At Rugby Park Stuart Findlay was red carded after 24 minutes conceding a penalty that allowed Dundee United to equalise in the 1-1 draw at Kilmarnock.

In the Championship Jamie Lindsay and Calum Waters were on the winning side against Conor McManus and Michael Duffy as Dumbarton won 2-0 at Alloa with former Celt Grant Gallagher scoring the second goal of the game.
