Lennon Rugby ParkJohan Mjallby is set to take charge of Swedish third tier outfit Vasteras VK.

The former Celtic assistant had a similar role under Neil Lennon at Bolton but quit the English side earlier this season to return to Sweden.

Despite his high profile as the captain of Sweden’s 2002 World Cup side Mjallby hasn’t been swamped with offers to get back into the game.

The Swedish season begins in mid April with Mjallby close to a deal to take his first steps as a number one.

Our initial discussions were very positive,” the former Celt admitted. “Hopefully we will continue our dialogue in a positive direction.

We still have some things to agree before it is done. This club should be in the top league.

It would be a big challenge but the club should be doing better than it has.

I’m excited about the chance to get back into the game. Henrik started at a lower level a few seasons ago. When you are out the game the phone doesn’t ring so often so I’m keen to get back involved.”

Mjallby was working in the Swedish media when he accepted an SOS from Neil Lennon in April 2010 to come over and assist him at Celtic.

When Lennon was given the job on a full time basis Mjallby stayed on as his assistant with Alan Thompson and Gary Parker added to the management team.

In the closing weeks of the 2013/14 season Mjallby announced that he’d be leaving Celtic, a few weeks later Lennon decided to step down as manager with the duo linking up again at Bolton in November 2014.
