Fraser ForsterTen months after dramatically breaking his leg Fraser Forster returned to action last night helping Southampton’s u-21 side to a 1-0 win over Chelsea.

The former Celtic keeper made a big impact at Southampton following his £10m transfer with Ronald Koeman’s side defying the critics to fly high in the Premier League.

After breaking his leg against Burnley, Forster was told that it would be a year before he would be back in action with yesterday’s match a significant landmark in his recovery.

“Obviously, a bit rusty, but it was perfect,” he admitted. “I’m buzzing to get 90 minutes under my belt, it’s probably been nine-and-a-half months now.

“I’m just delighted, just to kind of get through it, and the victory makes it that much better.

“It’s stage by stage, one day at a time. We’ve done everything correctly for the last nine months and not rushed.

“We’ve done it step by step and that’s how we’ll continue to the end. There’s no rush. I just want to make sure I get it right and when that day comes it will come.

“It will be good to play a few more 90 minutes, get that under my belt and just go from there, but like I said we’re looking step by step, day by day and we’ll see where it takes us.”

Since breaking his leg Forster has found another former Celtic team-mate move to the South coast with Virgil van Dijk joining the Saints in August.

With Victor Wanyama an essential part of the Southampton midfield Koeman could soon be fielding a team featuring all three former Celts.
