Aiden McgeadyRoberto Martinez has confirmed that there has been interest in taking Aiden McGeady out on loan.

The midfielder hasn’t made a single Premier League appearance this season and has been linked with a return to Celtic.

With his Irish international place in doubt the 29-year-old needs to get regular first team football to work his way into Martin O’Neill’s plans with Martinez sympathetic to the situation.

We have had a lot of interest in Darron Gibson and Aiden McGeady and we need to sit down and consider what is the next step,” the Everton boss admitted.

“It has been disappointing for them not to have enough minutes on the pitch and they need to be playing until the end of the season due to the opportunity of playing for Ireland in the Euros.

“They deserve to have special attention at this stage of the season. They haven’t played enough and now is a good opportunity to see if the second half of the season can be a good one.”

Asked about making a move for McGeady Ronny Deila said: “Maybe with players like McGeady, who has been here before, when he reaches the end of his career he’ll want to come back again. That’s possible, of course but I haven’t talked with him about that, although these types of names we are talking about.

A move to Celtic would almost be on a temporary basis with wages the biggest obstacle to overcome.

Staying in England would probably be McGeady’s preferred choice but a move to Celtic would give him his best opportunity to play regular first team football.

As well as boosting his international chances regular football at Celtic would put McGeady in the shop window for a summer move following the European Championships in France.
