Carlos Mane is today’s Celtic transfer target with the story coming from his Scottish based agent Cesare Marchetti.
If recent history is anything to go by Mane is highly unlikely to be swapping the hoops of Sporting Lisbon for Celtic with deals tending to be done on the quiet until it is virtually completed.
When an agent starts talking up a move it usually means that the deal is dead.
In one report this morning Marchetti claims: “Carlos is a fantastic young talent and would be a great investment for which ever club wins the race to sign him. We have had firm interest from several clubs across Europe but I think Carlos would totally light up the Scottish game, his pace and confidence as a winger is exciting to watch and he would quickly become a fans favorite wherever he ends up.
“Discussions are ongoing with a number of clubs at this point in time, it’s early days yet. He is in a good position with a number of offers to think about.”
Mane has been with Sporting since the age of 9 and been capped by Portugal at all levels upto u-21.
Celtic’s extensive scouting network keeps tabs on players across Europe with internationalists from u-17 under constant surveillance.
Coming into a similar category but without a substantial transfer fee is Romanian full-back Andrei Peteleu who is out of contract with Petrolul Ploieti at the end of the season.
Peteleu is currently training with Celtic, yesterday John Collins admitted: “He’s trained well and we’ve been monitoring him.
“He’s a right-back and he is here for a week. The scouting department flagged him up and he was available to come in on trial.
“That’s a perfect scenario- bring him in and have a look. I’m all for that- seeing a player in the flesh against our wingers.”
A guid centre hauf is wit we need.
Pretty sure that although he is out of favour at Sporting … Mané has a release clause of over 20 million euro …. good talent though .. pacy .. good crosser of the ball and has scored some cracking goals ..
