stokes league cupAnthony Stokes is out of the Hibs squad to face St Johnstone today for a place in the final of the League Cup.

The on loan striker made a scoring return to Easter Road last week in the 3-1 win over St Mirren but misses today’s match with a back injury.

Alan Stubbs makes one change to the side that beat St Mirren with Dylan McGeouch returning from injury to replace Marvin Bartley.

Liam Henderson will partner Fraser Fyvie in the centre of the park with former Celt James Keatings on the bench. Darnell Fisher is among the St Johnstone substitutes.

Last season Hibs lost 1-0 to Falkirk in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup with Stubbs determined to avoid a repeat.

The Hibs boss said: “When you have been there in big games you know they can go one way or another. I think the important thing is that we focus on making sure we perform. I have got no doubt whatsoever that we will. I fully trust the players.

There were certain moments in the Ibrox game (the 4-2 defeat at Christmas) when we let it go away from us. We made a couple of errors. If we had gone in at half-time level it would have been very interesting. But, of course, we didn’t. You can’t say ‘if this’ and ‘if that’. But when we have gone there we have performed. We have played some big teams in this competition before now.”

The match at Tynecastle will be played to a finish with extra time and penalties if needed.
