red cardBobby Madden has apologised to Andy Halliday for sending the Sevco midfield ace off against Hibs on December 28.

Halliday was given a straight red card for kicking out at Fraser Fyvie then followed that up by pushing his shoulder towards his opponents chest.

Fyvie was given a two match ban for simulation while the former Bradford City playmaker had his suspension overturned on appeal.

Last night speaking to his club’s tv channel Halliday explained: “Bobby Madden was the referee at the weekend and he was the first one to come up to me after the game to apologise for sending me off against Hibs, which I thought was a great credit to him.

Sometimes you don’t see that, and even a thing as simple as saying ‘sorry’ made me feel a lot better, and it just shows you that referees can make mistakes as well. That’s the case with the sending-off against Morton too which I thought was ridiculous, although obviously I can’t go too much into that.

And like I said, I think Bobby deserves a lot of credit for coming and apologising for that. It does take a lot to come and say sorry as sometimes you don’t want to admit that you’ve made a mistake.

But we are all human and we all make mistakes. I think he is a very good referee though and I have a lot of respect for him.”

In February 2015 Lee McCulloch was given a two match ban by the SFA after Madden failed to spot the Sevco skipper elbowing Lee Carrick in the head during a Scottish Cup defeat by Raith Rovers at Ibrox.
