BILLY MCNEILL LISBONSevco finance supremo Stuart Robertson is ready to go to war with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge!

News that the major television nations are looking to strengthen their grip on the Champions League emerged last week with Rummenigge drawing up plans to bring radical change to the elite tournament.

Restricting entry to teams from England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France is believed to be one option with certain clubs assured of a place also being proposed.

Bean counter Robbo has a busy schedule trying to keep administration at bay, finding an exchange to trade shares in and arranging a share issue but took time out to warn Bayern chief Rummenigge that Sevco won’t be pushed around.

It’s a time to put club rivalries aside and unite against this,” Robbo told the Daily Record. “I can only speak for Rangers but I’m sure the views of Celtic and Aberdeen – or any other club in Scotland – will be the same. Maybe this will help the clubs in Scottish football get behind one cause.”

Perhaps introducing Financial Fair Play would be a subject more likely to get the support of Scottish football clubs.

Robbo added: “Scottish clubs at least want a chance of being at Europe’s top table. From Rangers’ point of view, we’d certainly resist and lobby strongly against this.

They are loose proposals, clearly to try and test the water. So we’ll need the SFA and SPFL to lobby quite strongly.

Basic principles have to apply here. The absolute fundamental is the champions of every European country get a chance to compete.”

Alloa chairman Mike Mullraney refused to comment on his club’s views on the proposals.
