OCONNELL EOGHAN 2Eoghan O’Connell scored his first goal as a Cork City player yesterday- heading home his side’s third goal in the 4-0 win over Cobh Ramblers who included his brother Andy in their side.

Colin Healy opened the scoring from the penalty spot as Cork stepped up their preparation for the new season with the short journey to Cobh.

After a frustrating season through injuries and a brief loan spell with Oldham O’Connell has now managed two appearances and a goal within three days of joining Cork.

While the central defender enjoys some game time Aidan Nesbitt is still waiting for some action after Partick Thistle’s home match with Aberdeen on Friday night was postponed.

The Jags have slipped to third bottom place in the Premiership but have three games in hand over the two teams above then with Alan Archibald’s side just a point behind Motherwell and Hamilton Accies.

At McDairmid Park Darnell Fisher helped St Johnstone back into the top six thanks to a 2-1 win over Motherwell. Stuart Findlay retained his place in the Kimarnock side that earned a 0-0 draw at home to Dundee in Lee Clark’s first match in charge.

Easter Road will host something of a Celtic re-union this afternoon with four loan Celts expected to feature when Hibs host Alloa.

Liam Henderson and Anthony Stokes remain on the promotion trail for Alan Stubbs’ side while Conor McManus and Michael Duffy will be hoping to steer Alloa away from the foot of the table.

After their Scottish Cup win over Hearts Stubbs’ side will be going all out for full points after drawing 0-0 at Livingston last Saturday.

Hibs play their game in hand over Sevco at home to Morton on Wednesday but face falling further behind in fixtures due to their League Cup Final appearance against Ross County on March 13.
