Loch Lomond FestivalCeltic’s u-17 side were beaten 3-1 by Redbull Salzburg in their opening match at the AL Kass Cup in Qatar.

The Austrian side turned in an impressive performance, creating 21 attempts on goal as they dominated throughout with Celtic given little chance to impress.

Salzburg were two goals in front when Ciaran Diver pulled a goal back in the 74th minute but the Austrians quickly restored their two goal advantage to claim all three points.

Diver had a half chance in the opening minute but the Redbull keeper covered his angles well to block the shot from the hoops striker.

Salzburg enjoyed the bulk of possession but were unable to put Aiden McAdams under much pressure but in the 32nd minute Randy Montie held off the challenge of Daniel Church to shoot low past McAdams.

Monti doubled the lead in the 69th minute with the Celtic defence unable to clear a corner but five minutes later Diver gave Celtic hope.

Substitute Kerr McInroy sent a corner deep into the Salzburg box, Diver got his head to the ball with Jason Barr distracting the Salzburg goalkeeper allowing the header to find the net.

Any hope of a comeback was killed off in the 79th minute when Sbozslavi drilled a low shot past McAdams following a cut back from the bye-line.

Celtic are back in action on Sunday against Estudiantes of Argentina with the final match in Group C being played on Tuesday when Salzburg face Estudiantes.
