MoyesSwansDavie Moyes is among the early favourites to replace Remi Garde as manager of Aston Villa.

The hapless Frenchman replaced Tim Sherwood earlier this season but provided the club with little and seemed ill-prepared for a relegation dogfight.

Moyes is 11/4 second favourite behind Nigel Pearson for the Villa job according to Paddy Power who have Neil Lennon at 17/1 and Stan Petrov at 66/1.

Tonight in the middle of the international fixtures Villa announced: “Manager, Rémi Garde, has today left Aston Villa Football Club by mutual consent.

The Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Rémi for all his efforts during a difficult period and wish him well in the future.

Eric Black will take over as acting manager until the Club appoints a new manager. There will be no further comment from the Club at this stage.”

Moyes has been out of work since being sacked by Real Sociedad last November after 12 months.

Despite less than a season at Manchester United Moyes is still highly rated following his 11 years at Everton and is keen to get back into management.

Lennon and Petrov are unlikely to feature in any shortlist with Pearson the local favourite on account of his time in charge of Leicester City.

With relegation almost assured Pearson’s experience of managing in the Championship is bound to appeal to the Villa board with the club drifting towards relegation since the departure of Martin O’Neill in 2010.

Since then including caretakers nine different men have taken charge of Villa with the club now nine points adrift with seven matches left to play.
