Welsh FA lay down the law and refuse promotion over licence issue

|

Money in FootballThe Football Association have refused Caernarfon Town promotion to the Welsh Premier League because they don’t legally exist.

Without the accounting requirements that other clubs operate under Caernarfon are leading the Cymru Alliance but won’t be promoted to the top tier due to licensing irregularities.

A letter from the FAW published on the club website stated: “The Appeal Body were unable to award the Domestic Licence because the applicant ‘CPD Tref Caernarfon Town FC Cyf’ was dissolved on 18th August 2015, due to no filing of accounts. The Appeal Body noted that the Licence Applicant has applied for reinstatement but as of the date of this hearing, the club had not been reinstated. Therefore, based on the information currently available the Licence Applicant does not exist as a legal entity and therefore, cannot be granted a licence.

In response a statement on the Caernarfon Town website explained: “Following speculation regarding the club’s legal status which came to light recently we feel it is important to clarify the situation to all interested parties.

The current position is that Caernarfon Town is a fully fledged football club, and a going concern, but it is not at present a limited company. As has been reported earlier in the week, the Club ceased to be incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in August 2015.

However, we have commenced work to restore the legal status and have submitted all the appropriate papers through to Companies House, and expect confirmation of the reinstatement of the Company in the next few days.

Representatives of the club’s committee met with the Canaries Supporters Club and first team management and squad yesterday where the legal status and matters relating to the Domestic Licence were discussed at length.

We wish to thank everyone present for the open and honest discussion that took place and we sincerely hope that this the start of a new and successful phase in the club’s history.”

Since Rangers went into liquidation in 2012 the SFA have been vague on licensing issues, after creating conditional membership to Charles Green’s Sevco 5088 they have subsequently airbrushed the summer of 2012 and transferred the honours of the dead club to the renamed The Rangers International Football Club.
