Stefan ScepovicAmong the lengthy list of strikers to have failed spectacularly at Celtic one name still carries credibility among supporters- Stefan Scepovic.

The 26-year-old appeared to be the square peg being hammered into Ronny Deila’s 4-2-3-1 system but few fans would bracket him alongside Teemu Pukki, Mo Bangura, Amido Balde and the others who were clearly never going to make the grade at Celtic.

Scepovic was Deila’s only permanent signing during the summer 2014 transfer window but from the day he arrived he was playing second fiddle to John Guidetti.

As Guidetti’s star faded in the new year Leigh Griffiths picked up the scoring baton leaving Scepovic to cut a lonely figure on the sidelines despite a decent return of eight goals including a double in the 5-0 presentation day win over Inverness Caley Thistle.

On the final day of the summer 2015 transfer window Scepovic slipped off almost un-noticed to Getafe despite doubts over the suitability of Nadir Ciftci who was in the middle of a domestic suspension.

With Deila moving on it looks like Scepovic will be back in town for the arrival of a new manager. With two goals of Getafe’s 33 La Liga goals Deila’s replacement is likely to be more impressed by those stats than the form of Carlton Cole, Colin Kazim Richards and Nadir Ciftci.

After a brutal spell in which they took just two points from 13 matches Getafe are fighting to escape relegation with a win away to Real Sociedad and draw with Valencia giving the fans some hope with three matches left to play.

Scepovic came off the bench to score against Valencia and is likely to feature in the remaining matches as coach Fran Escriba attempts to fight off relegation.

With Deila’s successor likely to ditch the unpopular 4-2-3-1 formation Scepovic’s end of season form could be creating interest outwith those following Getafe’s relegation fight.
