Stokes hairAnthony Stokes laughed off comparisons with Marco van Basten after his ‘wonder goal’ against Sevco last night.

With Hibs leading 1-0 thanks to an early strike from Jason Cummings the on loan Celt sent a cross towards the back post from the right wing.

Incredibly Wesley Foderinham managed to push the ball into his own net with Stokes taking the acclaim of his team-mates.

I was putting a cross in — I’m not Marco Van Basten, I’m not going to shoot from there!” the Irishman joked.

Reflecting on his side’s win Alan Stubbs said: “We seem to have come through our blip now. We’ve just had two great results but I think we’d been showing signs over the last number of weeks that the performances are starting to get back to where we need them to be.

We just need to keep building. I have said all along it is not about our form in March it is about our form going into April and May. There have certainly been real positive signs over the last few weeks.”

For us, it was just about three points. You could see with the team Mark [Warburton] put out that he wanted to win the game, but it had no relevance to the cup final. All it means is that over the course of the season two teams have played each other four times and they’ve both won both their home games.”

The win puts Hibs back in control of their own fate as they attempt to finish second in the Championship to avoid an extra two play-off matches.
