Hoops too strong for Aberdeen

Loch Lomond FestivalCeltic’s u-17 side continued their powerful charge towards the league title with a 3-2 win over Aberdeen at Montrose yesterday.

Last week the young hoops took five and six goals off Hibs and Kilmarnock with yesterday’s win delivering the same three points as they muscle it out with Hamilton and Sevco for the title.

With 19 wins and two defeats all season Celtic have been a model of consistency with the scoring burden shared between Mikey Johnston and Jack Aitchison with a number of midfielders pitching in with goals.

It was Johnston that opened the scoring yesterday midway on the half hour mark with Ewan Henderson, brother of Liam, adding the second soon afterwards.

Aberdeen pulled a goal back just before half time but substitute Kerr McInroy restored Celtic’s lead although a late penalty gave the scoreline a more flattering appearance for the hosts.

League details are hard to come by but according to the table published on the Ayr United Academy website Celtic are now likely to top the table.

By my reckoning Celtic have still to play Hamilton Accies twice in their five remaining fixtures with those matches having a large bearing on the destiny of the title with the league winners going into next season’s u-19 UEFA Youth Cup.
