Liverpool fans gave their side an incredible welcome as they arrived at Anfield for the Europa League semi-final against Villarreal last night.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were met with by a red smog of pyro, flags and songs as they negotiated the final stage of the journey to Anfield.
While pyro is banned from inside football grounds there was no shortage outside as the Liverpool fans gave their heroes a reception to remember.
The welcome seemed to work with Liverpool sweeping the Spanish team aside to go through to the final against Seville on a 3-1 aggregate.
After seeing off Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund Klopp’s side will look confidently forward to the final in Basel.
Following last night’s 3-0 win Klopp said: “It was nice to watch, be part of it, the whole performance from 6.45pm when we drove through the road again.
“The first half-hour was power, the will was obvious and 15 minutes (of the first half) we lost a bit of patience.
“Second half we were back to the plan. We were very emotional plus very smart and scored some wonderful goals.”
Before the match Klopp had explained why he took up the offer to manage Liverpool saying: “When I decided to come to Liverpool, it was more about – I can’t really explain – it was clear.
When Liverpool call, I will do it. I cannot really say why; it was deep in myself. I wouldn’t have broken up my holiday for each other club in the world.
‘It’s not because there are similarities to Dortmund. This is an unbelievable club and it’s not necessary to compare it to another club. We will write our own story. The base for a nice story is done, we’ve had a few nice moments in a difficult season.
“People are allowed to be optimistic [for] the future. We will see what happens next. There is a lot of reasons for being optimistic in the future.”
