Omar Bogle GrimsbyFormer Celtic striker Omar Bogle was the Grimsby hero as he scored twice in their 3-`1 Play off win over Forest Green to earn a place in the Football League.

After a six year absence the Mariners return to the Football League with Bogle netting his 14th and 15th goals of the season to put his side into a 2-0 lead at the interval.

Forest Green pulled a goal back on the hour mark but a late strike from Nathan Arnold settled the issue.

Bogle joined Celtic in 2011 after impressing in a trial and appeared in the 2011/12 Next Gen Series.

Playing alongside Tony Watt he formed a strong physical strike force but returned to England in March 2012.

Speaking after a Bogle double earned Celtic a 2-1 win over St Johnstone in November 2011 John Kennedy said: “Omar can be a real threat when he puts his mind to it. His first goal was following the ball in to get a tap in then for the second goal he used his body well to create some space to shoot.

He’s capable of that and along with Tony Watt they gave their back four a torrid time in the first half. Tony was running the channels, getting behind them and with Omar being strong and physical our front two provided St Johnstone with a real headache.

In the second half we stopped feeding the balls into them as we had, we got a bit slack and that allowed St Johnstone to get some crosses into the box which was a threat.

We played with the same two strikers against Aberdeen, they did well in that match and also for 45 minutes they worked well together.

Most of the time we play with one up and two wingers but we need to have another option with two up front, when they are both on their game they are very effective.”

According to the Grimsby Town website: “Striker Omar Bogle is another of Town’s new faces this summer, and early signs are that he will bring pace, power and goals to the side.

Born in Birmingham, the 6 foot 2 hitman began his career in the youth team at Birmingham City, managing to play for their Reserve side at the age of 16 before leaving for Scotland to play for Celtic in December 2011.

After a spell in the under-19s at Celtic Park, Omar joined Hinckley United in March 2012, it was there that he began to make a name for himself on the non-league scene, only lasting three months before he was poached by Conference North side Solihull Moors.

He hit 29 goals last season for Solihull, finishing top goalscorer in the Conference North and also winning the league’s Player of the Year award, which was what led to interest from Town boss Paul Hurst.

Omar officially signed for the club on 15th June 2015 for an undisclosed fee, with Town beating a number of other clubs to his signature and will be eager show he can seamlessly make the step up to National League level this season.”
