ROSS WALLACEPromotion specialist Ross Wallace is one match away from a return to the Premier League.

The former Celt scored at home and away against Brighton to book a place in the Championship play-off final for Hull City.

Shaun Maloney’s Hull City look like providing the opposition after beating Derby County 3-0 in the first leg to set up what will be billed as the richest match in football with a prize of between £100-200m on offer for the winners at Wembley.

A 1-1 draw last night at the Amex Arena was enough to see the Yorkshire side through with Wallace killing off hopes of a fightback when he scored from a cross in the 28th minute after Lewis Dunk had opened the scoring nine minutes earlier.

With a 2-0 cushion from the first leg, thanks to goals from Wallace and Kieran Lee, Wednesday saw out the second half without any real scares and are now one match away from ending a 16 year absence from the top flight.

Gary Hooper and Glenn Loovens will join Wallace at Wembley with coach Carlos Carvalhal looking to bring the big time back to Hillsbrough.

“We know we are making history at the club,” he said. “It’s been a long time since Sheffield Wednesday have achieved this type of success. It is very important to the club.

“The self-confidence of the club is much higher this season. The club was sleeping and we have woken up the giant. The final is something that we deserve but it’s not finished yet.

“We have achieved something – I remember we was in 19th in the league, so we have grown together; me, the staff, the owner and the fans like a team. We understand the competition better now. We have animated stadiums wherever we’ve played as we play good football.”

Wallace left Celtic in 2006 for Sunderland and won promotion to the Premier League under Roy Keane, in the 2013/14 season he was in the Burnley side that won promotion under Sean Dyche.
