Stuart ArmstrongOn the eve of their likely relegation to The Championship a musical Dundee United fan has turned to You Tube to express his disgust at chairman Stephen Thompson.

Fifteen months after selling Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong to Celtic the Arabs are facing the humiliation of being relegated across the street at Dens Park.

United fans have pinned the blame for the club’s demise firmly at the feet of Thompson who took over the chairmanship from his father Eddie in 2008.

The sale of Mackay-Steven and Armstrong came shortly after news leaked out that Jackie McNamara was on a percentage of any transfer fees. The relationship between McNamara and Thompson never recovered with Nadir Ciftci sold to Celtic six months later for just over £1m.

Despite sacking McNamara early this season Mixu Paatelainen has been unable to lift the club with some bewildering comments used to cover up some abject performances.

After dragging themselves to within touching distance of safety United lost back-to-back home matches to Inverness Caley Thistle and Hamilton Accies to virtually seal their fate.

Paatelainen was warned by Police Scotland and the SFA after gesturing to Dundee fans during the last derby at Tannadice and can anticipate a hot reception at Dens Park tomorrow night.

Anticipating the inevitable the United manager said: “There’s always plenty negativity. Look at Eric Black’s comments about Aston ?Villa. There’s a lot of toxic in the air. And it’s the same with us because of where we are.

It’s natural but it’s not nice. It hurts. Do you go into a corner and start crying? Or do you roll you sleeves up, make a plan, and fight to make things better? That’s the spirit from me. That’s the kind of guy I am.

“I’ve got no problem with the fact my position has been questioned. It’s only natural in this position. We still have a chance to save our season but regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season we must make big changes.

It’s not in my hands whether I will get the chance to make those changes so I don’t worry about that. I haven’t spoken to anyone about my future.”
