Stewart Robertson has vowed to punish any Sevco fan involved in the fighting that marred Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final defeat from Hibs.
On Sunday night a club statement claimed that fans took to the pitch to defend players and officials but pictures and video clips from Hampden painted a very different version of events.
Various clips showed Sevco fans in action including video of an attempt to grab a child of around 10 or 11 years of age while another set of pictures showed fans attacking Hibs supporters with a corner flag.
With Dave King and Paul Murray both in hiding Managing Director Robertson was put on the spot today to promote another supporter initiative while trying to soften the tone set by Sunday’s incredible statement which attacked the BBC and SNP in a scatter gun approach.
Today Robbo claimed: “We don’t condone violence and we will wait to see what comes out of the investigations. We will deal with any Rangers fans in the appropriate manner.
In contrast Sunday’s club statement claimed: “We acknowledge that a tiny minority of Rangers fans also encroached on the pitch but only after having been faced with prolonged and severe provocation and in order to protect our players and officials who were being visibly attacked in front of them. Any club’s supporters would have done the same.”
Robbo also went on to highlight the lines of communication with Stewart Regan this week which again contrasts with Sunday’s statement.
Having justified the actions of their supporters on the pitch at Hampden it’s expected that the SFA will call on the Ibrox club to justify that view.
Robbo made no mention of the anti-catholic songs of smoke bombs from his season ticket holders at Hampden.
