uefaGalatasaray have had an appeal against a UEFA ban kicked out by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The Turkish side were handed a two season ban by UEFA for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations but appealed the decision after winning the Turkish Cup Final.

UEFA rejected that appeal but Galatasaray appealed to CAS in a bid to participate in next season’s Europa League.

Earlier today CAS stated: “The appeal filed by Galatasaray has been dismissed and the decision rendered by the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) Adjudication Chamber on 2 March 2016 has been confirmed.

“As a consequence, Galatasaray remains excluded from participating in the next UEFA club competition for which it would qualify in the next two seasons (i.e. the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 seasons).

“The CAS Panel in charge of this matter has dismissed the appeal and has confirmed that the UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Fair-play Regulations had been properly applied by the UEFA CFCB Adjudication Chamber in the present case.”

Osmanlispor finished fifth in the Turkish League and will now be rewarded with a place in the Europa League taking the spot claimed by Galatasaray.

UEFA’s Fair Play regulations seem open to interpretation with big league clubs like Manchester City and PSG able to compete despite incredible losses season by season. It remains to be seen if UEFA will impose the same regulations on other clubs..

In 2014 Galatasaray were fined £155,000 by UEFA and warned that they would have to be run on a break-even basis within three seasons if they were to take part in the Europa League or the Champions League.
