Ibrox axe falls on Durrant in cost cutting move

|

Warburton MarkIan Durrant is on his way out of Ibrox as the enormity of the club’s debt impacts on the football side of the company.

In 2011 the former Scotland midfielder TUPE’d over his contract alongwith Ally McCoist and Kenny McDowall as part of the continuation myth.

While his two colleagues handed in their notice during the disastrous 2014/15 season Durrant hung around to be demoted from first team coach to Development side coach on a salary believed to be around £200,000/year.

Despite the masterplans and noises coming from the state-of-the-art Murray Park Academy very little has emerged from within the club with Mark Warburton only willing to name five substitutes for the recent Scottish Cup Final.

Durrant joins Jimmy Sinclair and other big earners have been paid off to cut costs but with losses running at close to £10m/year only drastic action is likely to make the club viable.

Since the Stokesy Cup Final Warburton has become a virtual recluse with just one interview given to The Scottish Sun since the final game of the season.

Despite the critical need for season ticket sales the former Brentford boss has been noted by his absence as the club attempt to shift 45,000 season tickets with the official club website not carrying a single comment from the magic hat.

During his days as a city trader Warbs earned the reputation of being a workaholic but appears to have overcome that addiction as he gears up to take the Premiership title from Celtic.

Speaking at the start of May Warbo said: “We’re getting very close on two or three more but we have to man-mark them until they come through the door and sign a contract.

We’ve stolen players before and had players stolen from us. It’s a cut-throat business. The talent pool is even smaller and people are fishing in the same pond.

We have to sell the club, the environment and the reasons why they should come here. I hope to have five new ?signings by pre-season.”

Since the season ended Dom Ball, David Templeton, Nicholas Law, Nicholas Clark, Billy King and Guidem Zaleem have left Ibrox.

With Joseph Barton covering Euro 16 for TalkSport, Accrington Stanley aces Josh Windass and Matt Crooks contracted to the Lancashire side until June 30 while Jordan Rossiter is on duty with the England u-19 squad Warbo will find that he has six less players to work with than he had for the Hampden defeat from Hibs.
