Gary McAllisterFor eleven matches Gary McAllister got an insight into the ways of Brendan Rodgers.

The circumstances were far from ideal with the former Scotland captain brought back to Anfield to work alongside one of the favourites in the sack race.

After six draws, three wins and two defeats Rodgers was binned after a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park with the team in a run of five draws.

The fixture schedule had been unforgiving with trips to Arsenal and Manchester United in the first month followed by the derby match, White Hart Lane and Stamford Bridge before October was completed.

For good measure the season opened up away to Stoke City- the same venue that had delivered a 6-1 defeat at the end of the previous season in Steven Gerrard’s final fixture.

It was a difficult time for McAllister to come in and fire-fight but during that brief spell together he got to know the strengths of Ronny Deila’s replacement.

When we worked together we started off reasonably,” McAllister told The Scottish Sun. “We went to Stoke on the first day and there was a bit of pressure on us, because Liverpool had lost 6-1 there on the last day of the season before but we went there and Philippe Coutinho scored a great goal late on to get us the win.

We beat Bournemouth then drew with Arsenal in the next two games, so we got off to a reasonable start. We were only together for a short spell, but I got an idea of how he liked to work.

There would be the odd day when Sean and I would be on the training ground, but Brendan normally had the boots on. He likes to be involved in what’s going on.

What you see of him on the box is the way he is, he’s pretty calm and measured about what he does.”

Rodgers’ Celtic career will kick off on July 12/13 in the second qualifying round for the Champions League with a further two rounds to be negotiated to open up a £20m windfall.
