Steven Pressley has become the first managerial casualty of the new season- resigning from Fleetwood Town ten days before the first game of the season.

Elvis took over from Graham Alexander in October 2015 taking the club to 19th place and narrowly avoiding relegation. During his time in charge Fleetwood won 14, drew 11 and lost 15 matches.

Just after noon today the club website announced: “Fleetwood Town can confirm we have agreed to accept the resignation of manager Steven Pressley.

“The decision was made this morning following a meeting with the 42-year-old where it was agreed it would be best to take the club in a different direction.

“Fleetwood Town would like to thank Steven for his professionalism and effort during his nine months at Highbury, particularly in successfully maintaining the club’s League One status last season.

“Our focus will now turn to the prompt recruitment of a new manager to take the club forward.”

Prior to taking charge of Fleetwood Pressley had spells managing Coventry City and Falkirk as well as working under George Burley with the Scotland squad.

As a player he is best remembered for his days at Hearts although he did turn out for Rangers (IL) and Celtic either side of his stint at Celtic.

His Hearts career virtually ended when he called a media conference alongside Craig Gordon and Paul Hartley to criticise Vladimir Romanov. Ironically all three players went on to Celtic at some stage although all three never played together along the M8.
