For a small band of Celtic supporters it is almost part of their ritual to visit the Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan areas.

Shakhtar Karagandy, Qarabag and now Astana are becoming as familiar as Third Lanark, Clydebank and Rangers were to a different generation of Celtic fans.

When you are going to the bother of travelling 4,000 miles for a game of football it’s remiss not to spend a day or two sampling the local culture and enjoying some sunshine.

Unfortunately for the fans, but surely welcomed by Brendan Rodgers and his squad, the weather in Astana today seems similar to that associated with Fair Monday in Glasgow.

Despite the overcast conditions the Celtic fans in Astana seem to be having a good time as they prepare for the big match.

The 8pm local kick off time shouldn’t put a dampener on the occasion with Celtic SLO looking after matters to ensure that every detail for the fans is catered for.

Using his twitter account JP Taylor has been sharing some images in the countdown to the match which pleasingly will see the bhoys play in hoops.

Speaking yesterday about the match Rodgers said: “It’s important we go back to Celtic Park in good condition. We don’t need to win it tonight, but we want to get back into the game at Celtic where we know we have the support and the great intensity of the atmosphere that the team play under there, which always makes it difficult for the opponent.

We respect the team that we play tonight. They just got through in the last round and they will obviously look at their home game to make the maximum impact they can in the tie.

We assessed some of their games from last season in the Champions League so we know a lot about their strengths. They like to put crosses in, they have physicality in their team and they are quite direct at times, while they have one or two players who are good on breaking away on the transition.”
